Unfortunately, I had to miss the meeting last night -- I'd planned to go, but had a last-minute conflict arise. So I am anxious to hear reports on what was said and what the next steps are. My main concerns about the plan as I understand it are: the lack of affordable housing, the lack of any plan for schools, and the lack of any plan for mass transit.
My family moved to Columbia when the city was in its infancy -- and my parents consciously chose Columbia because it was a "planned community." I hope that we don't miss this opportunity to remain a PLANNED community -- the last thing we need is for Columbia to become just another hodgepodge of "suburban sprawl."

Those are both very good points. The issues of mass transit or affordable housing have not been addressed adequately yet. On the issue of schools I am not confident in their student numbers projections. We must make sure that the plan is not approved until there are clear solutions in the plan to these issues.
Thanks Evan -- I think that the school issue is tied up with the affordable housing issue. If they are targeting all of their (expensive) housing at "young professionals" and seniors, they can honestly project that the new residents won't impact the schools. But if they start planning for affordable/"work force" housing (which I think is a MUST if Columbia is to maintain its diverse/inclusive identity), they will also need to adjust their school projections.
