Snow

First snow fall of the year and it is January 21st :(

Where is your favorite sledding hill in Howard County? When I was little my favorite was behind Dasher Green Elementary/Owen Brown Middle School, which now is called the Cradlerock School. We use to walk over there ever time it snowed. Sadly they made the slope a lot more gradual in the mid-90s and it no longer is the great sledding location it once was.

I will watch this post for some good tips as we actually have to drive to find good (safe) sledding. My kids were so excited when it started snowing. We saw kids in the neighborhood sitting on their front stoops with sleds in hand. The memories of simpler days and simpler problems.

There are a few nice hills by the east side of Lake Elkhorn (both are near the powerlines)and one on the west end of Lake Elkhorn as well.

Sadly, there isn't enough snow for real sledding ;-(

Centennial Park, by the dam, is a good long hill. I also like the hill right by the Fairway Hills golf course clubhouse.

Loved the news coverage of "the first major winter storm of the season."

Really? Major?

Mt. Albert off of Carroll Mill- best sledding site in Howard.

Behind Stevens Forest pool. It's not the best hill, but in terms of proximity to my warm house, it can't be beat. I took the snowboard out there last night -- after coming home from Ski Liberty -- and was more than happy with the results. We'll wait and see what happens when we get a "real" storm.

I used to live on the 18th at Fairway Hills and can attest to the quality of the sledding there, too.

The Columbia tot lots. The sledding is not very good, but you can at least hang out and drink beer.

Why not have beer lots? Oh wait, that would be NASCAR or a Ravens game.
