Will Howard County's new smoking law be emulated statewide?

As indicated in today's Sun, the bill to extend the ban on smoking in Howard County bars and restaurants was adopted on a 3-2 partisan vote last night. It will surely be signed into law by County Executive Robey. Will Baltimore City be next? Or will it be the state?

Thanks, County Council, for remedying this situation, finally providing as safe a workplace to restaurant/bar workers as other indoor workers in the County have enjoyed for years.

As a lifelong asthmatic I have mixed feelings about the smoking ban. Smoking has bothered my breathing to a degree, but what really sets my lungs off is when I'm around cooking (like the Judith Ivey scene in "Brighton Beach Memoirs").

Anyway, doctors say that the most polluted air is indoor air after cooking. My hope is that the County Council will next ban cooking in restaurants.
