Lake Kittamaqundi Dredging Open Thread
At the Town Center Candidates Forum tonight one of the major issues that was raised is the plans under consideration to use the silt resulting from the dredging of the lake to fill in part of the north end of the lake. Since this is an important issue I don't know much about I am putting up this open thread so that members of the community who know more than I can fill us all in and discuss the situation. I look forward to hearing what you have to say.

Hard to form an opinion without more details.
Where will the silt go once dredged?
Is the proposal to fill in part of the north end of the lake with dredged silt just expedience along the lines of the ill-fated open Bay dumping at site 104 plan http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=open+bay+dumping+chesapeake? Could this silt be returned to its upstream sources and confined there instead?
How long will the dredging project take?
Hours of operation?
Noise levels expected (both above and below water level)?
Is there an environmental impact statement for the proposed operations?
What lives in the lake and its lakebed?
What lives in the northern part of the lake being considered as a dump site?
Will lakebed vegetation be adversely affected?
Will disturbing the settled silt clog the lake's fishes gills with silt?
Concurrent with any silt remeditation efforts specific to CA's lakes, are any efforts being made to abate the silt sources, perhaps as part of the County's Watershed studies?
Are there more environmentally friendly methods of dealing with the lake's silt than what is being proposed?
