Another Great Choice By Ken Ulman

County Executive Ken Ulman made a superb choice in selecting Josh Feldmark to be Executive Director of the new Howard County Commission on the Environment and Sustainability. There are few people I ever met more passionate about this county and the environment than Josh. Combine that with Josh’s superb ability to keep an open mind to creative solutions and willingness to explore others' ideas to see how to achieve the best outcome and I can think of no one better suited to serve as Executive Director of this commission.

Not a woman. Not a minority.

Is he another high school friend of Kenny?

Anon. 12:16, I believe Josh is a member of a minority.

And can you think of anyone better suited for this position?

I also thought he was a white Jewish guy. Is he not?

Josh is a minority member? Huh?
And yes he is a very close friend of Ken. And his wife is Ken's assistant.

I'm concerned that he is going to go down a radical path with an agenda similar to the Sierra Club.

Is this a paid position? I have serious concerns if it is.

Seriously, Ken has been in office 77 days and he's already ballooning the size of the government with new Commissions and talk of new Departments, all while facing budget shortfalls. How is he paying for all of this?

Josh is very well qualified. He has a superb background in environmental policy and knows our county backwards and forwards.

Frankly the posters of catty anonymous comments do not reflect well on themselves. I am not surprised they choose to post anonymously.

And anyone who is trying to imply the Sierra Club has a radical agenda just makes themselves sound radical.

Josh has a distinguished career as a professional environmental advocate. He also has served on the Columbia Council (as its president or chair).

And for the record, yes, jewish people are in fact a (very small) minority.

The Sierra Club IS a radical organization. You can hardly say that they are balanced in protecting the environment AND protecting jobs and businesses.

So now Jewish people count as "minorities" - I guess that is how Ulman will get the minority representation in his cabinet.

Steve Fine has ZERO credibility. He is a partisan apologist. Read his blog, if you can stand it.

Ulman HAS to help the Sierra Club - it is the only organization to actually give him an endorsement. The Flier, the Times, Post, Sun - they all endorsed Merdon.

OY!

Lotta good those endorsements did Merdon! Too bad a majority of the voters endorsed Ulman.

But if you're still hung up on that....

Voters elected Ulman, in spite of the multiple endorsements in favor of Merdon. Do we need to rehash why?

To count white males as minorities because of the religion they worship is flat out lame. I had no idea that Ken Ulman or John Feldmark were Jewish until someone mentioned anti-Semitism. This can't be equated to other minorities...

Jewish people in Maryland have such a long history of being discriminated against...

Whites are actually a minority now too.

Give us a break.

Agreed. Jews are hardly an aggrieved minority in Maryland.

Ken Ulman isn't appointing minorities because his boyhood chums were not minorities. Nothing personal, but you need to swear loyalty to Team Ulman to get hired.

By the way Anon. what is your basis for concluding that Jewish people in Maryland don't have a history of being discrimated against? Are you a Jewish Person who has lived in Maryland for a while and has never experienced any prejudice?

And I guess those signs that were pretty common at Maryland Beachs during my childhood that said

"No N******,
No Dogs,
No Jews"

Were all just a figment of everyone's imagination.

I dare you to reveal your identity anon., but I reamin confident that you lack the courage or moral fiber to do so.

Steve Ulman, er I mean Fine,

Nice explanation, but why doesn't Ulman just say that he is redressing the past discrimination of Jews when he appoints white people to posts instead of qualified blacks or women? If that was truly the explanation, he should defend it.

BTW - when you say that Feldmark is Jewish... based on what? His last name? Or do you actually know him?

The politics of division are not appealing.

On the Hayduke website, you said that questioning Ulman's unsubstantiated resume is due to anti-Semitism. If someone claims to hold a made-up position, it is wrong. Doesn't matter what color, religion or sexual orientation.

Making everything about anti-Semitism is a red herring.

Now this?

Jews should not have preference over women or blacks. Why do you think they should? Someone with courage and moral fiber would see a distinction.

Your prejudice is clouding your judgment, Steve Ulman. I mean Steve Fine.

If you actually had interesting things to say, Mr. Fine, than maybe you would attract an audience to your blog rather than spending time on other blogs.

On a different note...does anyone else seem to take issue with the fact that Ken Ulman was on the County Council that approved the WCI tower and now he is opposing it... I think we should look at all the inconsistencies and hold him accountable for what he says and does.

Ken Ulman voted against the WCI tower. He is consistent on that, at least.
