Joe Lieberman - True Democrat?

(With apologies to Calvin Trillin.)

Joe is in all the news.

Many think he will lose.

If he does, he should go.

But now he wants a second show.

I believe political party organziations make a big mistake when they take sides in primary contests between members of their party. You would think that the officials of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee would be looking for victory in November rather than victory for a member of their club in a primary that will be decided by the party's voters. Why should anyone who favors Ned Lamont over Joe Lieberman on the basis of issues (as I do on more than just the Iraq War) want to contribute funds to a campaign organization that seems to have no standards other than incumbency as to who it supports?
By the way, I'm glad that some newspaper columnist is at least mentioning that a reason for voter unhappiness with Lieberman is his stance on religious matters. He seems not to believe that the church-state separation principle means anything. For him, governmental aid to religious schools is just fine.
Lieberman's religious views are why I opposed Gore's selection of him as his running mate in 2000. His views on Iraq and the supposed need to imperil more lives there is just added cause to clamor for his ouster.
Those elected Democrats who choose to intervene on the side of Lieberman in this primary election contest will get no support from me in this election or future elections. They can do their thing and I'll do mine. I'll bet there are a lot of active Democrats out there who feel the same way.

Howard Dean, despite repeated questions asking him to state who he wanted to win the CT Senate Democratic primary, repeatedly said that the CT primary was the business of solely the CT voters. He obviously also said that once the primary was won, the DNC would fully endorse and support the Democratic candidate, regardless who the CT voters chose.
